Legler School & Pioneer Valley Targeted Watershed Assessment

Purpose

This project was conducted to evaluate P and NOx concentrations, fisheries and habitat quality on Legler School and Pioneer Valley Creeks. Both creeks and their respective watersheds were part of a large-scale TRM project and EPA hypoxia grant that funded implementation of practices designed to reduce sediment and nutrient loading to these systems. Project implementation occurred from 2012 - 2014. This monitoring study evaluated the effectiveness of practices on both of these streams which are on the 303(d) list because of habitat degradation caused by sedimentation. HUC12 070900040402. Objective

This project evaluated the effectiveness of practices on both of these streams which are on the 303(d) list because of habitat degradation caused by sedimentation. It mirrored the project conducted in 2012 to gather baseline data prior to implementation of practices.

Outcome

An evaluation of the data to determine pre and post implementation of practices. The relative health of the fishery, stream habitat, and water chemistry will be compared. Data will be collected during calendar year 2017. It will be entered into the FM database and SWIMS. Reports will be entered into SWIMS and WATERS. The data will be used to determine if either of these streams can be taken off the 303(d) list. Read the Legler School & Pioneer Valley Targeted Watershed Assessment, Green County

Study Design

This effectiveness project mirrored the project conducted in 2012 to gather baseline data prior to implementation of practices. Fisheries and quantitative habitat assessments will be conducted at 6 sites (3 per stream). Water chemistry (TP and NOx) will be sampled once per month during the growing season. Data will be compared with pre-implementation data.
