Dane County WQM Plan Contracts & Products

Purpose

DNR contracts with CARPC to maintain the Dane County WQM Plan which includes water quality planning, wastewater systems planning, sewer extension conformance reviews, and sewer service area planning. Sewer service area plan approvals are formal amendments to the state's Areawide Water Quality Management Plan. Plan and plan amendments, once approved by the local community are forwarded to the Wisconsin DNR for administrative decision on updating the state's WQM Plan. These administrative decisions are based on the elements and considerations outlined in NR121. Annually, Wisconsin DNR transmits these updates to the USEPA through the Secretary's office for certification by USEPA as an amendment to the state's WQM Plan.

Objective

In Dane County CARPC works with communities to create updates to urban service areas with specific procedures, criteria and review processes customized and documented in the Dane County area. For more information on the CARPC process see their website:

    The Shoreland and Riparian Management Report attempts to create a flexible, yet rigorous, set of policy options to better protect Dane County’s surface waters from near-shore impacts. The policy options are based on the principle that any management strategy must take into account the diverse characteristics, constraints and opportunities of the equally diverse waters in Dane County.
