Menomonee River TWA 2017-2019

Purpose

Conduct HUC 12 level monitoring on the Menomonee River and tributaries in Milwaukee and Waukesha Counties. HUC 12 040400030401,03,04,and 05.

Objective

Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District has recently completed a TMDL for the Menomonee River. Ensuring the representative biological data exists in support of the TMDL prior to implementation of BMPs is important. Currently, Milwaukee RiverKeeper and MMSD conduct extensive water quality monitoring throughout the Menomonee River and tributaries. However, comprehensive biological data is needed in support of this chemical monitoring. Ten locations on the Menomonee (WBIC 16000 ) and tributaries (WBICs 18100, 16700, 16300) will be sampled for fish, macroinvertebrates, and qualitative habitat. As the waterbodies are all ready extensively monitored for water quality by other entities, no Total Phosphorus samples are proposed for this project.

Outcome

Number of sampling sites: 10 Sampling events: 2 recon days, 6 fish sampling days, 1 macroinvertebrate sampling day. Sampling will be completed by November 2017. Data will be entered by Craig Helker by December 2017. Summary report will be drafted by December 2018.
