LUMBERJACK RC&D COUNCIL: WRISC Forest County Knotweed Project


The Lumberjack RC&D is sponsoring a project to control Forest County Knotweed populations. The work will be conducted by Wild Rivers Invasive Species Coalition (WRISC). Project final deliverables include: The Wisconsin DNR will receive reports of all species investigations, including voucher specimens for all suspected bohemian and giant knotweed populations. Updated species identification and infestation information will be submitted to the Midwest Invasive Species Information Network (MISIN), an online database open to the public. Information will also be distributed via the WRISC email list (which includes professional partners and citizens) as well as through public press release(s). Specific project activities include: 1) Confirm species level identification of all invasive knotweed locations in Forest County; 2) Conduct targeted education/outreach on invasive knotweed species in Forest County to inform landowners, citizens, and professionals and increase knotweed reporting and management; 3) Implement control and management of all prohibited knotweed locations in Forest County aimed at containment and, when possible, eradication.
