NORTHWOODS LAND TRUST, INC.: LMI-Oneida County Private Shorelands Protection Project

Purpose

Northwoods Land Trust, Inc. will conduct an intensive, 2+ year effort targeted to encourage Oneida County lake property owners with 500+ feet of natural shoreland frontage to protect their natural shorelines. Voluntary conservation options available to lake owners include the land registry program, conservation buyer program, land donation program, and land protection agreement (conservation easement) program. This project will follow the highly successful pilot project in Vilas County. Project activities include: 1) GIS shoreland property owner identification 2) Information packet/direct mail campaign - provided to all large (500+ feet)lake shoreland property owners in Oneida County 3) Public awareness campaign - includes press releases/psa's/presentations (minimum of 2 educational presentations/displays per year) 4) Conservation Plan 5) Property owner contacts 6) Minimum of 2 conservation easements or other land transactions Project deliverables include: 1) Copies of color GIS maps of each of the towns in Oneida County to illustrate the parcels/landowners with 500+ feet of existing natural shoreland frontage 2) Copies of newspaper articles, press releases, psa's, and newsletter articles 3) Copy of conservation plan and needs assessment for priority land acquisition 4) Copies of approved and filed conservation easements, deeds from land donations or other land transactions, and registry program property plans/assessments WDNR Lakes Management Coordinator will be provided with an electronic (pdf or word) and hard copy of final report, GIS maps, conservation plan and needs assessment and hard copies of all news releases.
