Clough Island Sediment Sampling 2015

Purpose

Samples will be obtained around Clough Island in order to help characterize baseline aquatic habitat conditions around the island.

Objective

Samples will be obtained around Clough Island in order to help characterize baseline aquatic habitat conditions around the island.

Study Design

Samples will be obtained around Clough Island in order to help characterize baseline aquatic habitat conditions around the island. DNR staff will collect 7 sediment samples which will be analyzed for a combination of metals, PAHs, PCBs, pesticides, and dioxin. There is a known source of contaminants upstream at the US Steel Superfund site. Pesticides may have been used during agriculture in the early 20th century on the islands. Sample locations are at known drainages and downstream of the superfund site.
