SOUTHWEST BADGER R C & D: Education, Prevention and Planning - Northern Region

Purpose

Southwest Badger Resource Conservation & Development will conduct an Aquatic Invasive Species Planning project on waters of Sauk, Crawford, Richland, Vernon and LaCrosse Counties. They will implement their AIS Strategic Plan of 2013 by serving as an educational outreach coordinator to existing and new partners, monitoring waters for invasives, and assisting with containment and control to slow the spread of AIS. Some highlights of the activities and deliverables detailed on the grant application form include reaching out to at least 20 Bait Dealers, contacting law enforcement to discuss AIS, conducting group checks of boaters, doing outreach at 5 or more regional events, and presenting workshops to every county\2019s mowing department. They will also develop at least one Smart Mowing strategic plan in partnership with a County Highway Department. In addition to strengthening existing partnerships, they will reach out to new groups including hunters/trappers, farmers and nurseries. They will share information about this project using Facebook postings, press releases, and talking with legislators and local officials.
