Plum Creek-Fox River TWA 2015

Purpose

A non-point source implementation plan that is consistent with EPA's Nine Key Element Plan has been recently approved by EPA in Plum and Kankapot Creek Watershed. Contemporary biological and physical information within the watershed is lacking. Water Chemistry and flows have been monitored through 2 gauging stations on Plum Creek since 2010 at CTH D and New Rd.

Objective

Contemporary biological, physical, and chemical monitoring is desired within the watershed prior to significant conservation practices occurring on the landscape through this 9KE plan. Sites within the Main Branch of Plum Creek and Kankapot Creek will be evaluated using current WisCalm guidance to evaluate fish, physical habitat, macroinvertabrate community, and water chemistry on sites within these watersheds. The West Branch of the Plum Creek will be monitored and evaluated for BMP effectiveness through the 319 project funding available in 2015. A GLRI grant was awarded to install buffers and stream bank stabilization practices in the West Branch between 2011 and 2014.

Outcome

Monthly water quality samples and a fall macroinvertabrate sample will be collected and funded at the pour points of both Plum and Kankapot Creek through the Lower Fox River citizen monitoring grant. Additionally quantitative habitat and fish surveys will be completed to complete the data collection at these 2 locations. Fish, habitat, and macroinvertabrates will be collected from and additional 16 sites in the watertshed. An additional site upstream on both the Plum and Kankapot Creeks will have water chemistry samples collected by 6 times from May-October by volunteers.
