Large Scale Lake Planning
Members of the Pine Lake Property Owners Association initiated this two-year study in 2001 in cooperation with UW-Stevens Point Center for Watershed Science and Education and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to obtain current information about the lake’s water quality, aquatic plants, its relation with the watershed landscape and land use activities, and opinions of watershed residents. This document summarizes the activities conducted and results obtained by UWSP.
The Pine Lake Property Owners Association proposes to begin development of a comprehensive lake management plan for Pine Lake. The study will take place in two phases. This is phase one of the study and will include the following: 1) surface water quality monitoring; 2) determine areas of groundwater inflow and outflow along with the quality of the groundwater flowing into the lake; 3) aquatic plant survey and sediment/plant/interstitial water evaluation; 4) fishery survey; 5) surface and groundwater watershed analysis; 6) shoreland and sensitive area assessment; and 7) watershed resident survey. Results from this phase of the study will be summarized and presented to the Pine Lake watershed residents at the Association's annual meeting and picnic.
A progress report will be submitted to the DNR after completion of phase one of the study with a comprehensive final report being submitted after completion of phase two.
