Milwaukee Estuary AOC Fish Population Assessment

Purpose

Replicate monthly fyke netting and electrofishing portions of fish population monitoring completed just prior to AOC designation following Holey (1984). Total catch per effort from fyke nets and electrofishing will be used to evaluate population level recovery.

Objective

Determine the current status of populations of native fish species relative to their status that led to the inclusion of the “degraded fish and wildlife populations” beneficial use impairment for the Milwaukee River and Estuary Area of Concern as outlined in Holey (1984). (Completed refined in a separate, but related, scope of work funded through the OGL Great Lakes Monitoring Capacity grant.)

Outcome

Assessment of current status of fish populations in the estuary.
