Impaired Water - Pine Creek (Pine Creek)
Calumet County, Wisconsin
MA05
79900
5.54 - 9.12
3.58
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
This water is considered part of the Hayton Millpond and Pine River sediment, wetlands/soil remediation.
PCB contaminated sediment and floodplain soils create an unacceptable level of risk to human health and the environment at this site. The responsible party has entered into an agreement with the state committing to the completion of the clean up, but with an indefinite timeline.

This portion of Pine Creek was evaluated every two years between 2014 and 2022. In 2016 phosphorus levels were found to be too high for healthy aquatic communities such as plants, bugs, and fish. A phosphorus listing was added in 2016 and confirmed in the 2020 cycle.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).
