Impaired Water - Lake Butte des Morts (Lake Butte Des Morts)
Winnebago County, Wisconsin
UF04, UF05, WR01
139900
8,569.14
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Lake Butte Des Morts is considered impaired for excess phosphorus and sediment from watershed sources, runoff and resuspension of lake sediments. The overall condition of the lake is eutrophic, and its general condition is "poor". Several fish kill or fish report incidences have been reported in the past several years involving carp, crappie, walleye and sturgeon. This lake is know to have zebra mussels, eurasian watermilfoil, rusty crayfish. The water is also noted as a smallmouth bass fishery.

This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2016 WisCALM listing thresholds for the Recreation use, and chlorophyll data exceed REC thresholds.

This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; total phosphorus and chlorophyll-a sample data clearly exceeded 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Recreation use and Fish and Aquatic Life use. New fish tissue data indicates that this waterbody no longer needs a specific fish consumption advice for PCBS. This water should have its PCB listing removed.
This water is covered by the Upper Fox & Wolf River Basins TMDL, approved by the US EPA on February 27, 2020.
