Impaired Water - Duck Creek (Duck Creek)
Brown County, Wisconsin
LF05
409700
0.00 - 4.96
4.96
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
Duck Creek is impaired by phosphorus and suspended solids in the water. This water is part of the Lower Fox River TP & TSS TMDL that was approved by the EPA in 2012. This segment of Duck Creek was listed for Mercury in fish tissue from the 2002 to 2020 cycle.

Total phosphorus and aquatic organisms were assessed every two-year cycle from 2016 to 2022. This stream was found to have phosphorus levels that were too high and aquatic communities in poor health.

Impaired Water Notes
This listing was part of a set removed from the impaired waters list due to a change in fish consumption advisory levels in 2001. In 2001 Wisconsin DNR put into effect a statewide fish consumption advisory for mercury due to atmospheric deposition. Most of the lakes removed from the specific fish consumption advisories list in 2001 were not removed from the impaired waters list even though the thresholds had changed. For the 2020 assessment process WDNR requested delisting of 91 waters with residual mercury listings from prior to 2001. This request was approved by US EPA.

Impaired Water Notes
The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2014 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2014 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment).
Date

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2016 listing cycle; total phosphorus sample data exceed 2016 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, no biological data (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scores) were available to assess biological impairment.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category).

This water was assessed during the 2022 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data exceed 2022 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use.
