Impaired Water - East River (East River)
Brown County, Wisconsin
LF01
118000
0.00 - 14.15
14.15
Water is impaired due to one or more pollutants and associated quality impacts.
Notes
East River is impaired by phosphorus, suspended solids, and unspecified metals.

This water was assessed during the 2018 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use. New macroinvertebrate sample data exceeded 2018 WisCALM listing criteria for the Fish and Aquatic Life use (i.e. at least one macroinvertebrate Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the poor condition category).

The East River was evaluated for phosphorus and biology in 2018 and 2020; phosphorus levels were too high for healthy aquatic communities, like plants, fish, and bugs.

The Lower Fox River Basin TP and TSS TMDL was approved by the U.S. EPA on May 18, 2012. The TMDL covers 27 waterbody segments impaired by total phosphorus and 18 waterbodies impaired by TSS for a total of 45 TMDLs. These TMDLs address degraded habitat, low Dissolved Oxygen (DO), eutrophication, and turbidity impairments.

Impaired Water Notes
This water was assessed during the 2020 listing cycle; new total phosphorus sample data overwhelmingly exceed 2020 WisCALM listing criteria for the Aquatic Life use, however, available biological data do not indicate impairment (i.e. no macroinvertebrate or fish Index of Biotic Integrity (IBI) scored in the "poor" condition category). The impairment of high phosphorus levels was proposed for addition in 2020.
