Urban and community forests

Urban Forest

An urban forest is all of the trees and other vegetation in and around a town, village or city.

Urban forestry is the care and management of trees in urban settings. Trees are vitally important to cities, villages and towns. Like electricity and water, an urban tree canopy is part of a community’s infrastructure, providing valuable environmental, economic and social benefits. Well-managed urban forests pay back nearly three times the cost to plant and maintain them. Urban forests are dynamic ecosystems that provide environmental services such as energy conservation, better air quality, economic vitality, reduced storm water runoff, carbon sequestration, and help beautify communities.
