Urban Forestry Assessment (WisUFA) ProgramWisconsin Community Canopy Cover

In the table below, select your geographic boundaries of interest (municipal* or urban**), your county and/or your community to see the percentage of land covered by tree canopy and other land classes. Click on the links in each row to be sent to an interactive map.

Note that the aerial images from which the tree canopy classification were derived were taken in 2013***. It is the intention of the DNR’s Urban Forestry program to pursue a new classification every 3-7 years to track canopy changes over time.

*Municipal boundaries are the borders of cities or villages. Townships are not included unless they fall within a metro** boundary. For example, some of the Town of Grand Chute can falls within the Green Bay metro area. Additionally, municipalities which incorporated since after 2014 are not included.

**Urban boundaries are those lands classified by the U.S. Census Bureau [exit DNR] as urban areas, based on population densities. Per the Census Bureau: "Urban areas represent densely developed territory, and encompass residential, commercial, and other non-residential urban land uses. To qualify as an urban area, the territory identified according to criteria must encompass at least 2,500 people."

***A few communities which have incorporated since early 2014 are therefore not included in this table.
