Potawatomi State Park Current conditions

Observation Tower Closed: The observation tower at Potawatomi State Park is permanently closed due to significant wood decay. The department is planning for deconstruction of the tower with the intention to remove it as soon as practicable. There are no plans to replace the tower at this time, however other viewing opportunities at the park include the Old Ski Hill Overlook and pull-offs along Shoreline Road. The department is exploring other viewing opportunities as part of the current master planning process.

All trails are open to hiking. The suggested hiking trails are the Ice Age Trail or Hemlock Trail.

The campground is open. Any sites that are not reserved are available on a nightly basis at the park office. If you arrive after the office is closed, you must register and pay before setting up. The self-registration kiosk is on the side of the office building.

The dump station is open in the park. All drinking water is on in the park. The shower building is open for the season.

Campsites may be reserved online or by calling 1-888-947-2757 for the 2018 camping season.

This is a great time of year to hike in the park as everything is lush and green in the woods. An eagle was soaring along the shoreline by the boat launch this week. Milkweed is in bloom along the roadside attracting monarch butterflies. Several fawns have been spotted near the office along with large families of turkeys. Please remember to leave wildlife alone and view from a distance.

The fish cleaning station is open for the season. The docks are in at the boat launch.

The park’s accessible fishing pier was severely damaged by high waves in 2014 and removed from the water. The Friends of Potawatomi State Park plan have started a fundraising campaign to support replacement of the accessible fishing pier in the picnic area.
