Potawatomi State Park Current conditions

Observation Tower Closed: The observation tower at Potawatomi State Park is permanently closed. Significant wood decay has been found in the observation tower creating unsafe conditions and requiring removal of the tower. The department is planning for deconstruction of the tower with the intention to remove it as soon as practicable. There are no plans to replace the tower at this time, however other viewing opportunities at the park include the Old Ski Hill Overlook and pull-offs along Shoreline Road. The department is exploring other viewing opportunities as part of the current master planning process.

Nature

Columbine and yellow lady slippers are blooming in the park. Please remember picking flowers is not allowed. If unsure of a plant or flower, please take a photo and ask park staff. Several fawns have been sighted this week. Please remember to leave wildlife alone and view from a distance.

The park’s accessible fishing pier was severely damaged by high waves in 2014 and removed from the water. The Friends of Potawatomi State Park plan have started a fundraising campaign to support replacement of the accessible fishing pier in the picnic area.
