Governor Thompson State Park Current conditions

Hiking Trails

The park has 16 miles of hiking trails that are ready to be explored. We are seeing  leaves changing color! Wildflowers are still in bloom on the trails. The frost aster, dotted mint, compass plants, goldenrod, native sunflowers and rosinweed are in bloom.   Fall maintenance has started on the hiking trails.  Crews are out brushing back the trail edges and removing hazardous trees along the trails.

Don't move firewood!Due to the potential of carrying harmful tree pests and diseases, Wisconsin has restrictions for moving firewood.

The campgrounds are now open for the season.  Please register at the park office. Camping reservations are being accepted for the summer camping season by calling 1-888-947-2757 or on-line at this link. Camping reservations [exit DNR]. The campgrounds will stay open until Dec. 1.  The sanitary dump station and shower/flush toilet facilities will be closing for the season on Oct. 14. The dump station will stay open for dumping until Dec. 1, but no fresh or flush water will be available.  Water will still be available to fill your camping unit at the pressurized hydrant at any vault toilet.

The campground has 100 sites that are all sized for a tent, camper or RV. Sixteen sites have electricity. There are vault toilets and water fountains throughout the campground and a centrally located shower/flush toilet building. The sanitary dump and fill station is located on the road into the campground.

The boat access campsites on Caldron Falls Flowage are open year-round. Each site has a place to tie up your boat, canoe/kayak rack, tent pad, fire ring, picnic table, bench, primitive latrine and a bear-proof box to store your food.
