Buffalo River State Trail Current conditions

The trail is open to ATV and UTV use year-round. Horses, bicycles and hiking are also allowed. Connecting county ATV trails are closed for the season, but for more information, see:


The Buffalo River State Trail will be open to snowmobiles when the trail is groomed and the local county trails are open. Trempealeau County is the primary contact for trail conditions and the open/close status.

All snowmobiles operating on a Wisconsin snowmobile trail or corridor must display a valid snowmobile trail pass whether registered in Wisconsin or another state. For more information, see the Snowmobile Trail Pass webpage.

State trail passes are required for bicyclists and horseback riders age 16 and older.
