Pleasant Valley Wildlife Area

Pleasant Valley Wildlife Area

The Pleasant Valley Fish and Wildlife Area is a 120-acre property located in southern St. Croix County. The property was purchased in 1994 with additional acreage purchased in 2002 as a part of the Kinnickinic River Fisheries Area. The property consists exclusively of grassland habitat with Parker Creek, a tributary of the Kinnickinic River cutting through the property. The western portion of the property consists of the Kinnickinic Wet Prairie State Natural Area, a remnant wet prairie habitat. The property is managed as part of the Western Prairie Habitat Restoration Area, a landscape scale wetland and grassland restoration project.

The property is located 8.5 miles southwest of Baldwin. From Baldwin, follow Highway 63 south for 1 mile then turn west onto County Road N for 5.5 miles. Continue south on County Road J for ½ mile, then continue south onto County Road W for 1 mile. The property is located on the east side of County Road

The property is managed to provide opportunities for public hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife observation and other nature-based outdoor recreation. Management objectives aim to maintain an open grassland community through prescribed fire, mechanical and chemical control of woody species and limited haying and grazing. Populations of invasive species are controlled or eliminated by cutting, pulling, burning, herbicide treatment and/or biocontrol.
