Dover Wildlife Area

The Dover Wildlife Area is an 80-acre property 4 miles northwest of Union Grove in Racine County at the intersection of Highway 20 and Britton Road. Habitat on the property is a mixture of wetlands (cattail marsh, wet prairie), lowland brush, warm and cool season grasses and small woodlands. The property is a designated as a refuge and is closed to all entry from September 1 – December 31, except for gun deer season. Hunting opportunities exist for gun, deer and outside of the closed period for small game hunting and spring turkey season.

The property was purchased in 1967 and the Department of Transportation transferred an 8.5-acre parcel in the northeast corner to the department. The property is managed through the use of prescribed burns, mowing, removal of invasive plants and herbicide application.

The Dover Wildlife Area offers recreational opportunities outside of the closed period (September 1 – December 31):

  • Birding
  • Hiking (No Designated Trails)
  • Hunting - gun deer seasons only; small game and spring turkey outside closed period
  • Trapping
