Accreditation Types

"Certification" or "certified" means certification, under s. 299.11 (7), Stats., of laboratories that perform compliance analyses for hire or to laboratories that perform compliance drinking water analyses in accordance with the standards and requirements of this chapter.

"Registration" or "registered" means registration under s. 299.11 (8), Stats., of laboratories that perform tests solely on its own behalf or that of a subsidiary under common ownership or control in accordance with the standards and requirements of this chapter. Registered laboratories do not perform drinking water testing.

"Approved" means the department will officially accept results from these laboratories as satisfactory for compliance testing.

"Reciprocity" means the department recognizes the certification, registration, licensure or approval of a laboratory by another state or an agency of the federal government if the standards for certification, registration, licensure or approval are substantially equivalent to those established under s. 299.11, Stats.

The laboratory accreditation program does not currently have any reciprocity agreements with any states or federal government agencies except for accepting EPA Region 5 drinking water certifications for Wisconsin's State Primacy Drinking Water Laboratory - the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene.

The laboratory certification program does not currently have any reciprocity agreements with any private organizations.
