Mussel Bed

Element information

Overview

Mussel Beds are unique areas within a river reach where there is a large concentration of mussels that often include both rare and non-rare species. These beds correlate with suitable substrate conditions and presence of host species, and can occur in small to large rivers. They are significant due to their diversity and richness of species in a discrete area.
