Hine's Emerald Critical Habitat Area

Need a main photo for this element

Element information

Critical habitat is a specific geographic area(s) that contains features essential for the conservation of a threatened or endangered species and may require special management considerations or protection. When a species is proposed for listing as endangered or threatened under the Endangered Species Act (ESA), these areas may be proposed for designation as "critical habitat." Areas that are not currently occupied but are needed for a species recovery may also be included in the designation.

In Wisconsin, 8,841 acres have been designated as critical habitat for the Hines emerald dragonfly. Learn more at the US Fish and Wildlife Service's Hine's emerald dragonfly [exit DNR] web pages.
