Online wildlife surveys instructions and information

What are wildlife surveys?
Each year the Bureau of Wildlife Management collects hunt and harvest information from hunters, trappers and outdoor enthusiasts. Approximately 60,000 hunters, trappers and outdoor enthusiasts are randomly selected to participate in the annual surveys. The information from the participating hunters, trappers and outdoor enthusiasts is then used with information collected by biologists to estimate annual harvest, population trends, participation and effort, permit success rates, satisfaction and reactions to proposed season changes.

Who can take the survey? I hunted/trapped this year, can I take the survey?
Not all hunters, trappers and outdoor enthusiasts are eligible to take the survey. Each year randomly selected license holders are asked to participate in the survey. Only those hunters who have been randomly selected and notified by the Department of Natural Resources are eligible. How many hunters are selected is based on the number of licenses sold for each particular hunt. If a hunter has a license for a hunt with very few licenses, the greater the likelihood is that they will be selected to take the survey.

Will my information be used for purposes other than the survey?
No, the questionnaire is for survey purposes only. Completion of this survey is voluntary. Your response will help the DNR make informed management decisions.

How do I take the survey?
Return to the Wisconsin mail selected surveys information. Select the title of the survey which has been mailed to you. For best results and fastest service taking the survey, please have the following available: 1) your DNR customer number, 2) information about the management unit or units where you hunted/trapped, and 3) the duration including dates you hunted/trapped in each management unit.

I was sent a mailed survey, but I was unsuccessful or did not hunt this year. Should I fill out the survey?
We would like your response regardless of whether, or how much, you hunted. All responses are valuable in helping to make informed decisions.

Can I take the survey for my husband/wife/friend?
No, the survey asks about each hunter's experience and it is very important that each hunter eligible for the survey responds to the survey themselves. Report only for yourself, not on your hunting party or family and only on your Wisconsin hunting.

When will the survey results be available?
The survey results for the current year will be posted on the DNR wildlife surveys website in April and August. Previous survey results are also available on the wildlife reports.

Who do I contact if I have problems/questions about taking on-line surveys?
Please contact Brian Dhuey at 608-221-6342 or email.
