Wisconsin wetlands strategy: reversing the loss

Sixteen conservation organizations and governmental agencies came together in 2008 to create a collective vision for Wisconsin wetlands.

"Reversing the Loss – A Strategy to Protect, Restore and Explore Wisconsin Wetlands" charts a course these Wisconsin Wetland Team members will follow to achieve that collective vision, and invites other groups and citizens who want to help protect and restore these valuable natural resources.

How will we reverse the loss?

The Wisconsin Wetland Team has identified three approaches the partners will take to guide their activities and engage citizens: protect, restore and explore wetlands. These approaches will employ a combination of tools that include partnerships, incentives, outreach and education, science and modern technology and funding. Together these approaches, strategies and tools form the framework for focusing wetland work to proceed along common paths toward a shared vision.

Reversing the Loss

Implementation through action plans

To achieve its vision for Wisconsin wetlands the Wetland Team develops action plans to help guide and prioritize their work in two year increments. At the end of two years, the team will evaluate progress toward achieving the shared vision outlined in Reversing the Loss report accomplishments. People can help by getting involved. Some citizen action ideas are outlined in pages 14 through 18 of the wetland strategy, Reversing the Loss.

Are we reversing the loss?

Together with the help of partners, landowners and citizens, Wisconsin is making strides to help reverse the loss of wetlands, but there is still a long way to go.
