Printing sector

Here in Wisconsin, we value our printers. From flexographic to rotogravure, from web offset to sheetfed lithographic, from screen to digital - printing has kept our state’s economy moving for decades. The DNR is proud to have a long-time working partnership Wisconsin’s printing industries that have helped make this business sector a leader in innovation, green technologies and environmental sustainability.

Please join printing sector development specialist, Laurel Sukup, in continuing this partnership. She is excited to be able to help printers of all types and sizes navigate the environmental regulatory system and to explore new ideas for keeping this business strong. Please don’t hesitate to contact Jessica with any questions, concerns, ideas or innovations. A Green Tier Charter is now in effect to foster additional collaboration between the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Wisconsin’s printing industry. A Green Tier charter is a contract between the DNR and another entity (such as associations) that are committed to promoting participation in Green Tier and fostering superior environmental performance. A charter contains commitments, responsibilities and methods to accomplish the stated commitments. Charters help business sectors, like the printing industry, establish and meet environmental objectives. The charter, signed by three major printing associations, links efforts of the state’s Green Tier program and the national Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) [exit DNR]. The Charter recognizes the environmental management system used under SGP, making it easier for printers to participate and receive recognition in both programs. In addition to encouraging cross-participation in Green Tier and SGP, the charter entities are committed to working together to:

  • Streamline regulations and incorporate improved approaches to meet regulatory obligations;
  • Update anddevelop tools to improve environmental compliance and encourage beyond-compliance activities; and
  • Promote new technologies,improved processes, and resources to enable more sustainable printing.
