Rosy-Lane Holsteins LLC Functionally Equivalent to ISO 14001Tier 1 participant since 07/01/2013

Environmental activities

Rosy-Lane Holsteins LLC works continuously to balance production and profitability while protecting natural resources and providing a comfortable living for its employees. To accomplish these goals, the company:

  • uses coffee chaff, the husks blown off the coffee beans during roasting, from Berres Brothers Coffee Roasters in Watertown as feed for Rosy-Lane’s heifers;
  • uses milk chilling technology based on cold well water, which can in turn be used as drinking water for the animals; and
  • follows a Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plan, in place since 2003, to protect water quality and soil health on the property and surrounding land.

Future goals include:

  • reduce energy use by 10% (as measured by kW, BTU, and/or gallons of water) per gallon milk;
  • invest in equipment and technology that makes cow feed more digestible, allowing starch to make more milk versus manure; and
  • minimize idle time on all tractors, trucks, and equipment.
