Plastic Ingenuity, Inc [exit DNR]

Plastic Ingenuity, Inc. Functionally Equivalent to ISO 14001 Tier 1 participant since 10/29/2007

Plastic Ingenuity, Inc. of Dane County has provided thermoformed custom packaging and extrusion services since 1972. Its Cross Plains facility is located on the bank of Black Earth Creek, a designated Class 1 trout stream. For the past 10 years PI has been proactive in implementing numerous stormwater best management practices to reduce its impacts on Black Earth Creek.

Annual report tidbit

In addition to Plastic Ingenuity’s internal initiatives with renewable energy and other energy savings projects, Plastic Ingenuity’s Cross Plains facility purchased 126,585 kWh through Madison Gas and Electric’s (MG&E) Green Power Tomorrow Program. This calculates to 202,604 lbs of CO2 prevented from being released to the atmosphere. This is a voluntary program where customers can purchase electricity generated by wind and solar energy instead of electricity coming from traditional sources.

Environmental activities

PI constructed their Mazomanie facility in 2000. Although located more than 900 feet from Black Earth Creek, PI instituted stormwater best management practices to reduce the temperature of stormwater that eventually recharges Black Earth Creek. PI has reduced their environmental footprint through energy conservation projects, reducing hazardous waste generation, active recycling of scrap material and filtering emissions from their thermoforming and extrusion processes, eliminating their need for air permits. PI is in the process of developing an environmental management system that will be the foundation of PI’s superior environmental performance, and their participation in Green Tier will further solidify this important aspect of the company’s culture.
