Forest Legacy ProgramGuiding strategy

The 2010 Forest Legacy Program Strategy Document [PDF], included in the Statewide Forest Strategy 2010, was approved by the Forest Service [PDF] on December 13, 2010 and acts as the guiding document for implementation of the Forest Legacy Program in Wisconsin. It outlines the continued execution of the program, defines eligibility criteria, delineates the state’s Forest Legacy Areas and summarizes the accomplishments of the first 10 years of the Forest Legacy Program in the state. The strategy document satisfies the planning requirements as outlined in the Forest Legacy Program implementation guidelines from 2003. Together, the strategy document and the implementation guidelines update Wisconsin’s 2000 Assessment of Need [PDF], which determined and justified the need for the Forest Legacy Program in Wisconsin.

Public involvement process

As part of Wisconsin’s statewide forest strategy, the Forest Legacy Program 2010 strategy document was reviewed in the public comment process according to the public comment chapter of the statewide strategy. Additional input was considered on changes made to the Forest Legacy Areas and the "Important Environmental Values" section. The Forest Stewardship Committee also provided comments and input throughout the drafting process.
