Fall home-invading insects

When the first hard freezes of fall occur, some insects start looking for a place to spend the winter. A few of those species are notorious for seeking shelter in man-made structures such as homes, garages, sheds etc. These home-invading insects become a nuisance when instead of heading back outside in the spring, they die in their hiding places or they emerge and can't find their way out.

For more information about a few common species such as multicolored Asian lady beetles, boxelder bugs, brown marmorated stink bugs and western conifer seeds bugs, check out the UW-Madison Entomology outdoor insect invaders webpage [exit DNR].
