Western Harvest Mouse (Reithrodontomys megalotis) prefers dry and dry-mesic prairies, more or less open grassy places and neglected fields overgrown with grasses or sedges. In Wisconsin, it is restricted to the Driftless region and its borders. Breeding occurs throughout the year with the most activity occurring April-October. This species is not actively tracked in the Natural Heritage Inventory Database, but it could be tracked in the future if there is further evidence of its decline.
