Western Sand Darter (Ammocrypta clara)


Overview

Overview

Western Sand Darter (Etheostoma clarum), a fish listed as Special Concern, prefers clear to slightly turbid waters with moderate to strong currents. They are often found in medium to large rivers over extensive sand flats. Spawning occurs from late June through July. This species is not actively tracked in the Natural Heritage Inventory Database, but it could be tracked in the future if there is further evidence of its decline.
