Municipal waterworks operators play a vital role in providing a safe and plentiful supply of drinking water to local water utility customers throughout Wisconsin. Water utility operators wear many different hats as they collect, treat and distribute water to users.

Maintaining, inspecting, sampling and repairing drinking water systems is critical to ensuring a safe and adequate supply of water. To verify that drinking water systems are operating effectively, the DNR performs sanitary surveys at each municipal water system every three years.
