Tables I and II list the ch. NR 809 Safe Drinking Water maximum contaminant level (MCL) or secondary standard, the Wisconsin groundwater quality enforcement standard (ES) and/or a drinking water health advisory level (HAL) established by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) or the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for contaminants in groundwater and drinking water.
Ch. NR 809 Safe Drinking Water MCLs and Wisconsin groundwater quality standards are enforceable standards established to protect public health and welfare by limiting the levels of contaminants in drinking water and groundwater. Secondary standards are guidelines established to address cosmetic and aesthetic effects of substances present in drinking water supplies. Health advisory levels established by the Wisconsin DHS or the United States EPA are technical advice to assist with water consumption advisories and groundwater remediation decisions.
