Wisconsin PFAS Action Council (WisPAC)

Gov. Tony Evers declared 2019 the Year of Clean Drinking Water. As part of the statewide initiative to ensure Wisconsinites have access to clean, safe drinking water, Gov. Evers signed Executive Order #40 in August 2019 to address the issue of PFAS in Wisconsin.

PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of human-made chemicals used for decades in numerous consumer products including non-stick cookware, fast food wrappers, stain-resistant sprays and more. These contaminants have made their way into the environment through spills of PFAS-containing materials, discharges of PFAS-containing wastewater to treatment plants and certain types of firefighting foams.

Executive Order #40 directs the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to create the PFAS Coordinating Council (now known as the Wisconsin PFAS Action Council or WisPAC) in partnership with other state agencies. WisPac will develop and coordinate statewide initiatives to address the growing public health and environmental concerns regarding PFAS.

All WisPAC meetings are open to the public. Further opportunities for stakeholder and citizen feedback will be available through the development of external advisory committees.
