By Central Office August 6, 2018

Contact(s): Dave Zielke, Chair, Chippewa Valley CWD Advisory Team, 715-379-4060; Bill Hogseth, DNR wildlife biologist, 715-839-3771

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources staff and the Wisconsin Conservation Congress will host a public meeting Monday, Aug. 20 to discuss testing and surveillance in response to the discovery of chronic wasting disease in a wild deer in western Eau Claire County.

The Chippewa Valley CWD Advisory Team recommended that DNR staff work with willing landowners to issue voluntary surveillance permits to acquire tissue samples for CWD testing. These permits are to be issued within a 27.5 square mile "focus area" surrounding the location where a wild deer tested positive for CWD in March 2018. The advisory team has recommended that permits be issued starting Sept. 1.

The meeting will take place Monday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at the Rock Creek Town Hall on County HWY H in Rock Falls. DNR staff will be attendance to provide information regarding these surveillance permits. A public comment period will allow time during the meeting for citizens who wish to provide comments to the advisory team.
