MADISON - The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources recognized Alliant Energy's Edgewater Generating Station in Sheboygan as the 2018 Registered Laboratory of the Year. The annual award recognizes laboratories for their outstanding commitment to producing high-quality data in monitoring treated water discharged into the environment.

"Laboratories like Alliant Energy are strong partners in pollution prevention," said Steve Geis, DNR Certification Services section chief. "They assure that the treated water meets all applicable standards for protecting public health and natural resources."

When asked what makes his lab exceptional, Lab Manager Brian Gollhardt credits a teamwork attitude and excellent support from upper management. "Everyone buys-in to the company's core values of a clean, safe and healthy environment, and strives for continuous improvement in our environmental performance," Gollhardt said.

There are currently 345 laboratories in the state that provide chemistry data. The mission of DNR's Laboratory Certification and Registration Program is to support these small registered labs that benefit their facilities and ensure protection of the environment.
