Winter drawdown for aquatic plant management scheduled for Little Muskego Dam, Waukesha County

By Southeast Region August 4, 2017

Contact(s): Michelle Hase, DNR Water Management Engineer, 262-574-2127

MUSKEGO, Wis. - The City of Muskego has applied to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to lower the water level behind the Little Muskego Dam on Muskego Creek in Muskego, Waukesha County, for the 2017-2018 fall and winter seasons. The purpose of the drawdown is to freeze out and control invasive aquatic plants, including starry stonewort.

The DNR approved the controlled drawdown, which will be completed by October 1, 2017, or later if temperatures warrant. The impoundment will be lowered approximately 4-6 inches per day until the impoundment is drawn down by 7 feet or as near to 7 feet as conditions allow. The impoundment will be brought back to normal levels when ice out conditions exist on the lake in the spring.

The 12-foot high dam is owned and operated by the City of Muskego.
