Drawdown of Burlington (Echo Lake) Dam

By Southeast Region July 14, 2017

Contact(s): Andrea Stern, DNR Dam Safety Engineer, 262-574-2188

Burlington, WI - The water level behind Burlington (Echo Lake) Dam on the White River in the City of Burlington, Racine County, is being lowered due to embankment erosion sustained during the July 2017 flood event. The Department of Natural Resources has ordered the controlled drawdown of the Burlington Dam for safety reasons and to facilitate future repairs.

The water level will drop several feet from the typical water level, and the lake is expected to remain drawn down until dam repairs are complete. The timeframe for repairs will be determined after the water level has receded and a more thorough inspection of the dam can be conducted.

The 10-foot high dam is owned by the City of Burlington and impounds Echo Lake.
