MADISON - August is the perfect month to finalize preparations for your fall hunt, and a few important dates and reminders will help hunters have a safe and enjoyable season in the field.

Gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities

Eligible hunters interested in participating in the 2015 gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities are reminded that this year's hunt will take place Oct. 3-11. As of the June 1 land sponsor application deadline, more than 74,132 acres of land across 46 counties were enrolled for this year's deer hunt.

Hunters should contact sponsors directly and be prepared to provide their name, contact information and DNR customer ID number. To be eligible, hunters must possess a valid Class A, Class B long-term permit that allows shooting from a vehicle or Class C or D disabled hunting permit. As in the past, eligible hunters must also possess a gun deer license.

Bonus antlerless tags

Bonus antlerless deer carcass tags are available for purchase starting Monday, Aug. 17 at 10 a.m. Antlerless tags will be sold at a rate of one per person per day. Sales will continue until sold out or until the 2015 deer hunting season ends.
