PORTAGE, Wis. -The Wisconsin River has reached major flood stage near Portage. A Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Incident Management Team has responded to monitor levees and provide critical information updates to the public through local emergency management.

The river is expected to crest over 20 feet late Sunday evening. The record crest of 20.6 feet occurred in 2010. Residents in areas likely to be affected have been notified to evacuate while it is safe to do so. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area so emergency and dam monitoring personnel can work safely.
