Aquatic Plant Research EPA Review

Just like a doctor might conduct a blood test to understand if your body is healthy, scientists can look at lake biology to understand if a lake is healthy. A healthy lake will have a functioning plant community, while an unhealthy lake will likely show signs of biological degredation and impairment. Researchers for the state of Wisconsin are developing an approach to understanding lake health using aquatic plants. We will soon be able to look at a lakes' plant community and make judgements about the level of impairment the lake experiences, flagging healthy lakes for protection and degraded lakes for restoration.
