LAKE PUCKAWAY PROTECTION & REHAB DISTRICT: Lake Puckaway Comprehensive Management Plan

Lake Puckaway Protection and Rehabilitation District is sponsoring a large scale planning grant focused on updating and rewriting sections of their lake management plan.

Project activities include: Phosphorus loading using WiLMS, Shoreline survey, Course woody debris survey, Water quality assessment, Various aquatic plant surveys, Stakeholder survey

Project deliverables include:Comprehensive Lake Management Plan including the following:Research and review past data and relevant lake management records, Phosphorus loading estimates from watershed (WiLMS), Scenarios developed to assess how changes in watershed would impact water quality, Internal load estimates, Shoreline survey, Map delineating the integrity of the shoreline from water's edge to about 35' shoreward, Coarse woody debris map, Water quality assessment, Sample collection following WDNR long term trend monitoring protocol,Chemistry analysis, Dissolved oxygen and temperature profiles, Carlson TSI, Aquatic plant surveys, Early season AIS survey, Point Intercept survey, EWM peak-biomass survey, Aquatic plant community mapping survey, Maps/raw data for all surveys, Comparison with past surveys, Web-based stakeholder survey, Survey results, Develop a water level management plan, Plan must consider the potential new dam that may be constructed, Frequency, degree and duration of drawdowns, Recommendations based on best possible science and stakeholder input, Management, protection, enhancement alternatives and recommendations, Set tangible and realistic management goals, Identify possible ecological restorative projects, Identify possible funding sources.

Data, records, and reports, including GIS-based maps and digital images, must be submitted to the Department in a format specified by the regional lake coordinator. Final plan needs Department review and approval.
