Guided Hike to Old Baldy

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
Activities: Hike, Nature study
Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Join the Park Naturalist on this 1.5 mile one way trip to Wisconsin's tallest sand dune. We'll discuss some of the history, geology, and plants along the way! Meet at the Amphitheater outside the Nature Center. Sturdy shoes and a water bottle are recommended.

Survival Shelters

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Activities: Children's program, Outdoor activity
Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Do you know how to stay warm if you were to get lost in the woods? Our Park Naturalist will teach you about the principles of maintaining your body temperature and building a solid shelter that is rainproof and will keep you warm even in below freezing temperatures. Meet at the amphitheater outside the nature center at 2pm for this hands-on building activity! Sturdy shoes, pants, and bug spray are recommended.

Guided Hike to Clark Lake

Time: 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Activities: Hike, Nature study
Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Join the Park Naturalist on this 1.2 mile round trip hike to the beach at the end of the Clark Lake Spur. We'll get an opportunity to jump in the water and see if we can catch any critters along the way! Close toed shoes, bug spray, a water bottle and swimwear are recommended for this hike. Meet at the Amphitheater outside the Nature Center.

Primitive Fire Demonstration

Time: 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Location: Whitefish Dunes SP

Stop on by the shoreline area across from the campground shelter to see the Park Naturalist demonstrate how native peoples once created fire using hand drill and bow drill techniques. In the event of rain this activity will be found inside the Nature Center.

To Build A Fire

Could you start a fire with just one match? Learn how and where to gather dry materials, how to set up a fire, and start one using various methods! This will be a hands-on workshop that will involve hiking to gather materials as well as working with fire. Meet at the Amphitheater outside the Nature Center.

Playing with Shakespeare: Get Outside with Will Children's Workshop

Think Shakespeare is old and boring? Think again! Join the Summit Players for 45 minutes of fun and brain acrobatics! Play some games, work with some text, and explore the natural world. Learn how Shakespeare used nature in his plays and why his characters talk the way they do. Shed any iambic penta-jitters, then join us for the show! 1 p.m. workshop; 2:30 p.m. performance.

Shakespeare in the Park "Twelfth Night"

Time: 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m.

The Summit Players are a traveling theatre company who present short, accessible, free Shakespeare workshops and performances to audiences around the state of Wisconsin. Summit Players shows are produced with new cuttings of Shakespeare's scripts that become tight, 75-minute shows of mayhem, character switches, and hilarity. The production is 'Shakespeare out of a trunk,' with minimal set, costumes and props and a focus on actors, as per the style of Shakespeare's time. Prior to the performance, company members will lead a 45-minute children's workshop. 1 p.m. workshop; 2:30 p.m. performance.
