National Eagle Center

Location: Merrick SP

Experience the thrill of meeting a live bald eagle. Learn all about eagle biology, ecology, natural history and cultural connections in an engaging and entertaining presentation by one of the naturalist interpreters from the National Eagle Center.  This program is sponsored by Ye Old School House Shoppe in Buffalo City.  Please, no pets they may scare the eagle.  Vehicle admission stickers are required and can be purchased at the Contact Station. Full Moon Paddle

Time: 8:15 p.m. to 9:15 p.m.
Activities: Canoeing/kayaking, Night event, Outdoor activity
Location: Merrick SP

Discover the wonders of the backwaters of the Mississippi River by moonlight on this guided paddle. Bring your own canoe/kayak, or rent one of ours. Please call the park (608-687-4936) to reserve a canoe/kayak, rentals are limited. Rental fee is $15. Please pick up your rental equipment from the Contact Station prior to going to the south boat landing. We will leave the boat landing promptly at 8:45 p.m., so get there early! Ages 10 and up, some canoeing/kayaking experience is advisable. Participation is limited to a total of 25 people, so please call the park to reserve your spot. This trip will last approximately two hours. If it rains or the Mississippi River levels are unsafe, this event will be cancelled. Vehicle admission sticker is required and can be purchased at the Contact Station. South Boat Landing (near the South Campground)

Northwoods Niche

Explore the specific adaptations and the ways animals interact with both the living and non-living components of their Eastern Deciduous Forest habitat. During this interactive program, out guests will meet four different live animals including a salamander, snake, porcupine, and an owl. This program is presented by The Audubon Society of the North Woods.

Guided Canoe Trip

Join Ed Lagace, from the Upper Mississippi River National Fish and Wildlife Refuge, for a guided interpretative canoe paddle through the backwaters of the Mississippi River in honor of National Trails Day (which was on June 4). Trip will last about 3 hours. Canoe and kayak rentals are available from the park office. Rentals are free. Reservations are required because rentals are limited and event participation is a maximum of 30 people. Please call the park office (608) 687-4936 to reserve your spot. Please no pets. Vehicle admission stickers are required and can be purchased at the contact station. Meet at the South Boat Landing (near the South Campground).

"Not So Spooky" Hike

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Join us for a "Not So Spooky" self-guided night hike on one of our trails lit by jack-o-lanterns and tiki-torches. Try your hand at making fall decorations or just hang out by the bonfire and roast a hot dog or marshmallow! We will have s'more-making materials on hand along with hot chocolate and hot apple cider. Bring a flashlight, if you wish, and please dress appropriately for the weather. This program will run from 6 to 8 p.m. Vehicle admission sticker is required and can be purchased at the contact station. Meet at the Nature Center.
