Work Play Earth Day

Location: Newport SP

The Newport Wilderness Society, the friends group of Newport State Park, is holding a Earth Day Work Day at the park. Come celebrate Earth Day and help get our park ready for the busy season. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. Bring work gloves, pruners, hand saws and a willingness to help. Meet at the shop/maintenance building. Lunch will be provided.

Newport SP information

Newport State Park, northeast of Ellison Bay, is Wisconsin's only formally-designated wilderness park. With 2,373 acres and 11 miles of Lake Michigan shoreline, the park offers quiet alternatives to bustling Door County. Explore 30 miles of hiking trails with hike-in campsites. There are evergreen and hardwood forests, wetlands and upland meadows.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Kohler-Andrae State Park will be participating in the state-wide event. Volunteers are being sought to clear brush from roadways & campsites, clear sand from trails and parking lots and pick up litter. Volunteers should wear work shoes/boots, long pants, gloves and bring shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows if they have them. Individual and group efforts are welcome. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Please meet at the indoor shelter in the north campground for group assignments.

 Noon refreshments will be provided. Park admission is free for those volunteering. Pre-registration is not required for individuals; however, we would appreciate having large groups contact us prior to April 18. Kohler-Andrae SP information

Kohler-Andrae State Park in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, is the home of majestic sand dunes, miles of golden beach, shimmering blue Lake Michigan water, whispering pines, an abundance of wildlife, and recreational activities for everyone. Kohler-Andrae State Park is one of the last natural preserves along the Lake Michigan shore, and is open for everyone to explore and enjoy.

Come volunteer on the Hank Aaron State Trail in collaboration with the Milwaukee Riverkeeper Spring Clean up! Be one of nearly 4,000 volunteers joining together across the Milwaukee River Basin to pick up over 100,000 pounds of trash, get outdoors and help us achieve a spring cleanup across the city! Afterwards, stay and hike or bike the trail!

There are multiple sites and meeting locations, including one at 121st St., Miller Park, 3 Bridges Park and Emmber Lane (by Marquette's Valley Fields). Pre-registration is recommended. For eventregistration or to view site locations, visit the Milwaukee Riverkeeper website.

Hank Aaron ST information

Named in honor of baseball legend Hank Aaron, this trail provides a continuous connection between Milwaukee's Miller Park Stadium and the Lake Michigan lakefront, as well as providing connections to famous Milwaukee landmarks such as the historic Ward Theatre on the grounds of the National Soldiers Home, the Wisconsin State Fair Park and the Pettit National Ice Center. Eventually the trail will connect with the Oak Leaf Trail near the Milwaukee/Waukesha county line and run along the southern edge of the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Havenwoods State Forest is Wisconsin's only urban state forest, featuring 237 acres of grasslands, woods and wetlands in the city of Milwaukee. Join the Friends of Big Foot Beach State Park on Saturday April 18, anytime between 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. for our Work*Play*Earth Day! We will be cleaning up litter, downed wood, fixing picnic tables, painting picnic tables, and cutting back the sites, all to get the park ready for the campground's opening day & Earth Day, on Wednesday April 22nd 2020! Stay all day & enjoy the park, or come for just a little while! Meet at the entrance station at 10 a.m., or if you come later join us in the campground. Bring gloves.There will be bottled water for the volunteers.

50th Earth Day Celebration

This year marks the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the vision of Wisconsin's own Gaylord Nelson. Come join us at the Mackenzie Center for conservation projects of varying levels of skills and abilities and learn how you can become stewards of the land, air and water. Please come prepared with attire appropriate for outdoor work, including work gloves and rain gear. Parking and check-in will be in the Badger Den parking lot. RSVP at 608-635-8105.

MacKenzie Center information

The MacKenzie Center, just 25 miles north of Madison, is one of the most diverse education centers in Wisconsin. With interpretive trails, exhibits, museums and programming available for school and youth groups, MacKenzie is a wonderful place to visit and learn about the natural world. The State Game Farm is connected to the MacKenzie Center and is adjacent to the arboretum on the western half of the property.

Earth Week Litter Pick Up

Celebrate the 50th anniversary of Earth Day by helping give the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive and other forest locations a spring cleaning. Join others for a morning of camaraderie and litter pick up. Youth and other groups are encouraged to participate. Bring your own gloves. Garbage bags will be provided. Meet at the Forest Headquarters off County Road G to get your road assignment. After cleaning up, return to the Headquarters for snacks and refreshments. Meet at the Forest Headquarters locate at N1765 County Road G, Campbellsport, which is south of County Road SS near New Prospect. Sponsored by the Friends of the Kettle Moraine. Kettle Moraine SF - Northern Unit information

The Kettle Moraine Northern Unit is comprised of about 30,000 acres stretching 30 miles across Sheboygan, Fond du Lac and Washington Counties. The forest is managed for multiple use, including recreation management, sustainable forest products, water quality and soil protection, terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, native biological diversity and aesthetics.

Point Beach SF information

Point Beach State Forest features 3,000 acres of land and six miles of sandy beach along the shores of Lake Michigan. Point Beach offers family campsites, two large group cabins and an outdoor group camp. A popular feature within the property is the Rawley Point Lighthouse, which has been operated and maintained by the U.S. Coast Guard since 1853.

The Merrick T.U.R.T.L.E.S are sponsoring a Work/Play Earth Day event at Merrick State Park. Meet at the main Park Office at 9:00 a.m. Volunteers will assist with adding wood chips to the playground and raking leaves in the campgrounds. If time permits, other activities may include pulling garlic mustard and painting picnic tables. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear closed toed shoes. Lunch will be provided after the completion of the event.

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

Mirror Lake SP information

This park is named for its centerpiece, a lake which often is so Locationcalm that not a ripple marks its surface. The lake reflects a wooded shoreline with cliffs up to 50 feet high, a swimming beach, and wetlands that are home to a variety of wildlife. The park's 2,200 acres includes several picnic areas, wooded campsites, summer rentals, and a cabin for people with disabilities.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Buckhorn SP information

Buckhorn State Park is a paradise for water enthusiasts, hunters, hikers, campers and nature lovers. The park and two adjacent state wildlife areas cover more than 8,000-acres on a peninsula in the Castle Rock Flowage of the Wisconsin River and along the connecting Yellow River. Family and group campsites, unique cart-in camping, a cabin for people with disabilities, canoe trail and an accessible fishing pier, are all available at Buckhorn State Park.

Flambeau River SF information

The forest offers a variety of recreational opportunities. Canoeing is the most popular activity on the forest. Different portions of the river offer varying degrees of difficulty. The North Fork is ideal for the novice, while South Fork is for the advanced paddler. Musky, sturgeon, trout, walleye, bass and panfish can be caught from the river as well as the lakes in the forest. The forest is open to public hunting for bear, waterfowl, deer and grouse, just to name a few.

Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Celebrate Earth Day by helping out at Wisconsin's First State Natural Area - Parfrey's Glen! We'll cut and treat honeysuckle and garlic mustard plants. No skills needed - you will be trained on-site! There will be an optional hike after the work day that will wrap up around 1 p.m. Please RSVP if you are able to sign up by emailing Jared Urban. Tools for the day are also needed. If you are able to bring, loppers or other tools to remove and treat woody invasive plants, please let Jared know as well.

Volunteers should wear appropriate clothing for working outdoors. Please always dress for the weather! Bring work gloves and safety glasses or sunglasses if you have them (extras will be available if needed). You may also want water and snacks to keep your energy up! This work day will go on unless there is inclement weather - please RSVP to receive any cancellation notices.

Devil's Lake SP information

Founded in 1911, Devil's Lake is the third oldest state park in Wisconsin, the largest, and the most visited. Devil's Lake offers magnificent views from 500-foot quartzite bluffs overlooking a 360-acre lake. Enjoy lakeshore picnic areas, sandy swimming beaches, 29 miles of hiking trails, or ease into the backcountry solitude. Devil's Lake is a beautiful year-round park with an intriguing natural history along the 1,000-mile Ice Age National Scenic Trail.

The Friends of Whitefish Dunes are holding a Spring Volunteer Work Day for Earth Day 2020 on Saturday, April 25 from 9 a.m. to noon. Both indoor and outdoor (trail) work will be done. Whitefish Dunes SP information

Whitefish Dunes State Park protects the fragile dune environment on the eastern Door County Peninsula. Stroll along Lake Michigan, watch waterfowl at Clark Lake, use the boardwalk to discover the wetlands or relax on one of the many trails throughout the forested sand dunes and beech forest. The park's nature center features year-round programs, exhibits and displays on ecology, geology and human history. Whitefish Dunes is a day-use park, there is no camping.
