Free Fun Weekend in Wisconsin: No state park admission stickers or trail passes are required June 1-2, 2019. It is also Free Fishing Weekend when people may fish without fishing licenses or state trout stamps. Non-resident all-terrain vehicle operators do not need a non-resident trail pass to ride state ATV trails this weekend.

Merrick SP information

Located along the lazy Mississippi River and surrounded by the hills of Wisconsin's Coulee Region, the 322-acre Merrick State Park is popular with anglers and boaters. The marshy backwaters are home to a variety of fish, birds, animals and plants. Rising and falling river levels, though controlled some by dams, are part of the natural environment.

June 1-2 is Free Fishing Weekend in Wisconsin. Bring the kids for Curtis Meshak's fishing clinics between 8 a.m. and Noon on Saturday and Sunday. Loaner fishing poles and tackle available at the Park Office. Free worms while supplies last, compliments of the Friends of High Cliff.

High Cliff SP information

High Cliff State Park is the only state-owned recreational area on Lake Winnebago, Wisconsin's largest lake. The park gets its name from the limestone cliff of the Niagara Escarpment, which parallels the eastern shore of Lake Winnebago. The magnificent 12-foot statue of Winnebago Indian Chief Red Bird, standing high on a huge granite rock, overlooks the lake and is a popular destination in the park.

A fun event for the whole family! Activities for all ages including geocaching, archery, t-shirt painting, live music, kayak demos, telescope viewing, fishing and hiking. Big City Bluegrass "acoustic music with an old time feel" will be playing at the Amphitheatre. Sponsored by the Friends of Pike Lake.

Kettle Moraine SF - Pike Lake Unit information

The Pike Lake Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest is in the middle of the Kettle Moraine, a strip of glacial landforms which extends through southeastern Wisconsin to Lake Winnebago. The forest is named after the 522-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.

Come to the annual fishing clinic at Puckett's Pond at Harrington Beach State Park. It's free to get into the park this weekend. You don't need a fishing license on this day. We'll provide food, and we'll even provide the fishing equipment. All you have to do is sign up and show up. Pretty cool weekend deal, right? Harrington Beach SP information

Harrington Beach State Park has more than a mile of beach along Lake Michigan. This 715-acre park also features a white cedar and hardwood swamp, old field grasslands with restored wetland ponds and a scenic limestone quarry lake. Camp, sunbathe, picnic, hike, bird watch, fish or practice astronomy. An observatory is open to the public for monthly viewings.

Trail Day on the Red Cedar State Trail

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

There will be a number of activities put on by the Friends of Red Cedar State Trail to celebrate National Trails Day. Activities are at the Menomonie Depot Visitor Center located at the trailhead adjacent to Riverside Park, west of downtown Menomonie on Highway 29. All activities are free!

  • Free fishing at Riverside Park. Poles and lures provided, or bring your own.
  • DNR booth inside the depot.
  • Helmet Safety Demonstration by Mayo Clinic Health Systems.

Red Cedar ST information

This 14.5-mile rail trail shadows the steep walls of the Red Cedar Valley from Menomonie to its connection with the Chippewa River State Trail. Along its route, the trail passes through the communities of Irvington and Downsville and the Dunnville State Wildlife Area. The trail passes by prairies, marshland bottoms, forests and farmlands, including sandstone bluffs and other unique rock formations. In the Dunnville Wildlife Area, the Red Cedar trail connects to the Chippewa River State Trail.

Join us as we use all our senses to decipher the mysteries of nature by participating in the Wisconsin Explorers program! This program involves completing a required number of engaging nature activities in one of three age appropriate books (ages 3-5, ages 6-8, and ages 9+) to earn a very cool patch. This hour of discovery is geared towards special needs youth with accompanying adults. Location: Long Lake Recreation Area South Beach (off Division Road north of County Road F near Dundee). Let the fishing fun begin! Learn how to fish at the Learn to Fish Rodeo. Marvel at the unique adaptations of fish. Create your own fish print T-shirt or bandana. Take in a fish cooking demonstration and find out ways to impede the spread of aquatic exotics. Even drop a line in the water to try to catch a fish or two. Fishing equipment provided. Breakfast in the Park

Enjoy a free all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, with a side of sausage and applesauce, prepared and served by the Friends of Harrington Beach State Park. Donations are appreciated and will directly benefit the park. After a relaxing breakfast, served with coffee and milk, enjoy the beauty of Harrington Beach. Take a stroll or run, fish the quarry, or play on the beach. No park admission required during the State Parks Open House weekend. Meet at the Welcome Center.
