Bluebird Presentation by Charlotte Lukes

Sharing the photos of Roy and Charlotte Lukes, this PowerPoint presentation by Charlotte will explain the amazing success story of the Eastern Bluebird in Wisconsin. Along with all aspects of bluebird monitoring, she will talk about BRAW (Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin, Inc.) and how you can get involved. Charlotte and her late husband Roy are naturalists, conservationists, and stewards of all that makes Door County what it is. Meet in the Visitor's Center. Program is free, but a state park sticker is required for your vehicle.

Monarch Larval Monitoring Project Training

Time: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Activities: Educational Programs, Nature study, Wildlife conservation
Location: Newport SP

Interested in participating in a Citizen Science project this summer? Come to this informational meeting to learn about what is involved with monitoring a monarch test area at Newport for Monarch Lab. Meet with the park naturalist who will walk you through the process. There will be video presentations given by instructors from the University of Minnesota's Monarch Lab. Monitoring will go on once a week from roughly June through September. You can volunteer as much or as little as you want, but training is required. There will be another opportunity for training on May 21. Call Beth, park naturalist, if you have any questions. Meets in the Nature Center.

Bluebird Monitoring

Join the park naturalist to observe and learn about monitoring bluebird nesting boxes. The Eastern Bluebird is a longtime symbol of happiness, good health and hope in North America. After years of declining numbers, hear about their amazing success story. This will be done weekly during nesting season. Meet at the Nature Center, Lot 1.  This event will be weather dependent, as bluebirds may not be nesting yet.

Arbor Day Tree Hike

What a great place to spend Arbor Day learning about the importance of trees, plants and our forests. Arborist and horticulturist Tom Wolfe will be leading the way and sharing his vast knowledge. Work Play Earth Day - Celebrate EARTH DAY by volunteering at your State Parks!

Calling all volunteers! Celebrate Earth Day by lending a hand at getting the park ready for another busy season. All ages and skill levels are welcome; your willing heart and hands are all that is required. Bring work gloves, lopping shears, pruners, hand saws or whatever else you may want to bring. Lunch will be provided. Meet at the park maintenance shop.

Following the presentation, a telescope is set up to view whatever astronomical objects are available. Question and answer period follows around the telescope.
