First Day Hike

Time: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Activities: Hike, Outdoor activity, Snowshoeing
Location: Newport SP

If getting more exercise is one of your 2019 resolutions, then join us for a New Year's Day hike at Newport State Park! We will meet at then end of Europe Bay Road at the Hotz Park at 9 a.m. This moderate 3-mile hike will bring you along Europe Lake, with rolling hills along a forested sand dune. We will be on trails where snow shoes are permitted, so you may want to bring a pair if the snow is deep. Poles and/or walking sticks are encouraged.

After the hike, please plan on joining us for cider and hot chocolate in the Nature Center, Lot 1. A 2019 vehicle admission sticker is needed and can be purchased at the park office. The hike may be cancelled if weather is severe. Sponsored by the Newport Wilderness Society.
