Bird Banding

Time: 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Activities: Birding, Drop-in Program, Outdoor activity
Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

(Weather permitting). Dr. Sheldon Cooper of UW-Oshkosh, in conjunction with the Sheboygan County Audubon Society, will set up mist nets in the adjoining wooded area. Join him as he checks the nets and brings birds back to the shelter area to identify, weigh, measure and band before releasing them. This will be a unique opportunity to see birds up close. No pets allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Big Sit Birding Event

Time: 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Activities: Birding, Drop-in Program, Outdoor activity
Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Join Sheboygan County Audubon Society as they view, listen to and identify the many bird species migrating through the park. Anyone who likes birds is welcome! Bring your lawn chairs, binoculars and field guides. Snacks and beverages will be available. Come and go as you wish. Meet at the outdoor shelter next to Parking Lot P8. No pets allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Experienced Sheboygan County Audubon Society birders will lead hikes on the hour, every hour, to various park locations. Take part in as many hikes as you wish. Bring binoculars and field guides if available. Meet at the outdoor shelter at Lot P8. No pets allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Dutch Oven Cooking

Our new volunteer Brenda has had lots of experience cooking with Dutch ovens. Learn how to use them and enjoy some samples as well. This will be an opportunity to pick up tips and ideas for your next camping trip or backyard cookout. Meet at the park amphitheater. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Geocaching 101 Plus

Time: 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Activities: Geocache, Outdoor activity, Outdoor skills
Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Try another approach to geocaching using smart phones to find caches already located within Kohler-Andrae. Don't worry, Shari and Barb will still bring GPS units for those who do not have the latest phones or their own GPS unit. Meet them at the park amphitheater for a brief introduction and then it is off in search of caches. This is best for ages 10 and older; all children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed.

Travel the Ice Age Trail

The Ice Age National Scenic Trail is a 1,000-mile footpath that highlights the state's glacial landscapes as it travels through some of Wisconsin's most beautiful natural areas. Meet Amy Lord, Outreach & Education Manager from the Ice Age Trail Alliance, to learn why more than one million people use the trail each year to hike and snowshoe, to backpack, to disconnect and to reconnect. Learn about resources available to make your hike great. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at Sanderling Nature Center. No pets allowed.

Master naturalists Janet and Andy Raddatz will lead a discovery bird hike. Meet at the closed gate just west of the camp host sites. We'll walk west on Old Park Road to the Friends Pond, and then hike the Ancient Shores Trail to search for birds in the park. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. Bring insect repellant, sunscreen, and binoculars and field guides if available. The 1.75-mile hike lasts about 2 hours and is best for ages 8 and older; children must be accompanied by an adult. Please, no pets on this hike. Vehicles will need a state park admission sticker.

Fall Candlelight Hike in the Park

Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Bring family and friends to enjoy a self-guided fall evening hike along a torch-lit trail. Visitors are asked to park in the picnic lots and walk to the outdoor shelter near parking lot P8. Master naturalist Chris Lilek will entertain with songs and stories around the campfire. Cider and snacks will be provided at the shelter. Children must be accompanied by an adult. No pets allowed.

Fall Woodland Hike

Enjoy a fall morning while hiking the Woodland Dunes Trail with Master Naturalist, Drew Morris. Enjoy the colors, learn to identify trees, find out about the differences in types of trees, how they grow and how to tell their age. Meet at the trailhead near the playground for this 1-hour hike. The hike is great for families. Pets are not allowed.

Universe in the Park

Time: 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Activities: Astronomy, Night event, Outdoor activity
Location: Kohler-Andrae SP

Part of the Wisconsin Science Festival! Universe in the Park is a popular outreach program of the UW-Madison Astronomy Department and is predicated on a very simple idea: the best environment in which to introduce the public to astronomy is outside under dark skies. This program begins with a 20-30 minute talk and slide presentation covering a broad view of astronomy and recent astronomical news. Following the presentation, a telescope is set up to view whatever astronomical objects are available. Question and answer period follows around the telescope. No pets allowed. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Meet at Sanderling Nature Center.
